Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Our journey begins the day we are born. At first, our path is laid out by our parents. As we get older, we start making decisions for ourselves and we have to choose what we want to participate in. As we get involved in sports and activities, our peers, coaches and teachers begin to strongly influence some of the choices we make. As we grow older, the desire to be accepted by friends and make a good impression on the people around us becomes an important aspect of our lives. When striving to please others, strong personalities and peers can easily cause you to become a follower.
I experienced this throughout my high school career and my freshman year in college. I allowed the wrong people into my circle. Ultimately, these people began to influence my actions and my decisions. I lost myself and started to become somebody that I wasn’t. Eventually, I did not want to be a “follower” anymore. I began to seek better council and look to God, rather than my peers, for guidance. God’s word is a lamp for our feet to light our paths. Without God, I was walking in darkness, stumbling and tripping over things I had no business tripping over.
God’s word reveals the false values of the world and helps us focus. Let’s not stumble as we walk through life. Today, pick up your Bible and study God’s word, so you will be able to see and stay on the right path.
Keep good council around you as you walk.
